N.B. Mary Kocal's urban twilight photographs of the Somerville area transform scenes of domestic normalcy into compositions of wonder. The Museum of Modern Art included a print of
Christmas Window, Somerville, MA in the seminal 1991 exhibition
Pleasures and Terrors of Domestic Comfort. In addition to MoMA, her photographs are in the permanent collections of the Getty Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, and the MFA, Boston. Kocal is a Guggenheim Fellow, receiving the prestigious grant in 1993. She earned a master's degree in photography from the Rhode Island School of Design and resides in the Boston area.
