Red-painted Book Rest, early 18th century, the rest with turned frame and feet, adjustable rest with scalloped front, wd. 16 3/4 in.
It appears that one of the feet is original and three are later. The original foot is probably the one with the additional turned decoration. Overall the paint appears to be old, but not original. The joints look good for the most part; one has been reglued and you can see that in one of the photos. The wood is mostly oak, with what appears to be a different hardwood on the upper and central bar of the rest.
