Georges II and Francois-Honore Georges Jacob maitres from 1796-1803.
The top has a spring mechanism, raised on casters.
29 3/4 x 23 1/2 x 15 1/2 in.
Note: Toward the end of the Ancien Regime, Georges Jacob-Desmalter, a well-established Parisian cabinetmaker, founded a new workshop in 1796 with his two sons, Georges II and Francois-Honore Georges. They worked in collaboration with the architects Percier and Fontaine and the painter Jacques Louis David. They made furniture for the National Convention and the seats for the Committee of Public Safety, before working on the decor for the Chateau de Malmaison for the Bonaparte Family, among many other fashionable commissions -- including that of Madame Recamier.
In good, restored condition. The top has a spring-form mechanism, with very minor staining, scuffs and wear. The frieze drawer has a spring mechanism which opens a well. Finely made, with beautiful, feathered veneer. Nicely chased mounts. Structurally sound and with one previously repaired key.
Notwithstanding this report or any discussion concerning condition of a lot, all lots are offered and sold "as is" in accordance with our conditions of sale.
The Chinese Porcelain Company.
