Note on the artist from Architectural Digest: Rafael Freyre, based in Lima, Peru, focuses his experimental art and architecture practice on exploring the relationship between contemporary habitat and natural environments through architecture, design, and art. His projects—which have a distinct aesthetic and materiality— are based on the observation of the territory and establish "new relationships between the body, nature, and the environment, as a collective and collaborative fabric." From his perspective, he seeks to "expand and transform the languages and models established in the colony and propagated by industrial modernity," integrating natural and cultural diversity, local knowledge, and local histories.
Mapa de Suelos ("soil map") is inspired by the layered geology of Peruvian landscapes. It's made from fragmented stone considered waste by large industry, and sourced from several regions of Peru. The construction is a labor intensive process: diverse stones including marble, travertine, and onyx from Andean quarries are seamlessly joined by hand. Each piece takes months to build.
In good overall condition with very minor scuffs and wear. Structurally sound.
Notwithstanding this report or any discussion concerning condition of a lot, all lots are offered and sold "as is" in accordance with our conditions of sale.
