- Lot Description
Craypas on found paper, 1969, signed 'S Tillim' and dated lower right.
8 1/2 x 10 3/4 in. (sheet), 16 x 18 1/2 in. (frame).
Note: Our thanks to Diane Radycki Tillim for confirming the authenticity of the artist's signature. Sidney Tillim was a painter and art critic who made his mark at the 1972 Whitney Annual with figurative paintings based on the recent history of the turbulent 1960s. In the 1980s, he abruptly turned to abstraction and then reverted back to narrative painting at the end of his career. Throughout, he taught at Bennington College where he was uniquely positioned to address questions of representation versus abstraction, and the status-quo versus the avant-garde, both in his own art and in his critical writing.

Some surface soiling. Otherwise in very good condition.
