Description: Peace (Yellow) embodies Tsherin Sherpa’s distinctive blending of sacred tradition and contemporary experience. With a raised hand flashing the peace sign, the image feels at once spiritual and pop-cultural—an emblem of resilience and calm in a restless world. Figures swarm and climb around the Spirit, standing out against the luminous gold background,disrupting the serene surface with the noise and contradictions of the world. The work suggests that peace is not passive or naïve—it is a courageous stance taken in full awareness of disorder, a refusal to be consumed by the chaos. Sherpa thus reimagines compassion and tranquility not as distant ideals, but as active, defiant choices within the fractured, noisy realities we all inhabit.
About the Artist: Born in Kathmandu, Tsherin Sherpa works and resides in California and Nepal. From the age of 12, he studied traditional Tibetan thangka painting with his father, Master Urgen Dorje. In 1998, Sherpa immigrated to California, where he taught traditional thangka painting at Buddhist centers until he began to explore his own style, reimagining tantric motifs, symbols, colors, and gestures placed in contemporary compositions. Tsherin borrows imagery from classical Tibetan Buddhist iconography to abstract, fragment and reconstruct the traditional image, and to investigate his personal diasporic experience and the dichotomy where sacred and secular culture collide.

Shipping costs will be determined by The Tibet Fund after a winning bidder has won an art work. The winning bidder will be responsible for any shipping costs. Winners in attendance at The Tibet Fund Gala on October 23, 2025 will have the option of taking any won artworks home with them upon payment. Winners in the New York City area will also have the option of picking up the artwork at The Tibet Fund office in Manhattan during business hours.
