This original German WWII Kriegsmarine Narvik sleeve shield is a campaign award insignia associated with the German forces who participated in the 1940 Narvik operations in Norway. The shield was worn on the uniform sleeve and commemorated service in one of the most dramatic early campaigns of the Second World War. Though additional construction, backing, and condition details were not provided, the Kriegsmarine association makes this example particularly desirable among naval and campaign shield collectors.
The Narvik Shield was instituted to recognize Army, Navy, and Air Force personnel involved in the battles around Narvik in 1940. These operations were strategically important due to Norway’s coastline, naval access, and the iron ore supply routes connected to northern Scandinavia.
