A John Mecray original preliminary study for the painting: "The First Defense of the America’s Cup, August 8th 1870."
Graphite, oil, and acrylic on board.
11 1/4 x 22".
Condition
An approximate 2 x 2" area of in-painting, completed by a professional restorer, in the area of the water, on the lower right, to cover seven incised vertical lines and slight discoloration in the area, along with a few specks in the sky on the upper left and an accompanying light revarnish.
