- Lot Description
A highly unusual Weimar era photo album depicting various male acrobats, circus performers, cyclists, and athletes in various states of undress, alongside a salacious photograph of a urinal (a possible double entendre as both evocative of homoeroticism and a reference to Duchamp's infamous readymade 1917 sculpture). Several images appear to depict the 'Flying Brothers,' a famous trio of acrobats from the early 1930s in pre-war Germany. Cloth-bound album, with unique vintage aesthetic movement-style cobweb interfacing paper. 8 1/2 x 12"
Provenance: a private California collection.Condition
Toning to the book cloth and areas of soiling to the exterior. Some interfacing sheets are nicked and have minor tears. Edges of sheets of the book are slightly toned. Several pages are blank and appear to have not been used with no evidence of any photographs having been removed.
