Condition: Fair-Antique; blade appears to have been cleaned/polished and is very worn w/ scattered pitting throughout; markings are very faint; German silver pieces are worn w/ patina; stag handle has moderate wear & patina; leather is dry & cracked
-sheath & handle are likely not original to the blade; comes with extensive documentation and history on William H. Burgess
Marked: either side of the crossguard is marked "W. H. BURGESS"; underside of crossguard is marked "2" on both ends; left flat of blade is faintly marked "SUPERIOR BOWIE / KNIFE"; left Ricasso markings are very faint and can only make out parts of "SHEFFIELD", but would have originally read "MARSHES & SHEPHERD / PONDS WORKS / SHEFFIELD"; pommel is marked "OCT / 9 / 1858"
