Provenance: Property from an Austin, Texas art and antiques collector
Gerald (Gerry) Patrick McCann is known for his illustrations in the Western genre. McCann attended the Pratt Institute of Brooklyn, studying under Monte Crews, Nick Riley, John Fleming Gould and H. Winfield. He also studied with Harold Von Schmidt and heard lectures by Harvey Dunn while he continued his training at the Art Students League of New York. In 1939, for pulp magazines, McCann began drawing pen and ink story illustrations. His work appeared in Ace Sports, Thrilling Sports, Sports Story, Western Story and Wild West Weekly.
