Gregory Frank Harris developed his artistic skills from childhood, influenced by his mother, a painter, and beginning to draw and sculpt in clay at age five. He studied art and theater at Long Beach University, later attended the Art Students League in New York in 1985, and further pursued contemporary realism and plein-air painting through a workshop at the Fechin Institute in New Mexico and subsequent study in Santa Fe. He is also a member of the Putney Painters group alongside Richard Schmid. Inspired by a book on French Impressionism, Harris began studying and copying the Impressionists and Old Masters, eventually developing a practice centered on impressionistic oils, pastels, watercolors, and plein-air painting from life. His work has been exhibited in juried shows across the United States and received awards, while three of his Old Master copies were notably featured in the film Annie. He later became an elected member of the Lyme Art Association, taught privately and part-time, and continues his commitment to observational painting through his work with the Putney Painters.
