Provenance: Property from a home in Houston, Texas
Laura Lewis began developing her artistic skills in childhood, supported by her parents, and received private portraiture instruction from noted artist Glenna Goodacre before briefly studying art at the University of Texas at Austin. After initially pursuing a career in the health professions, Lewis returned to art full time in 2001, inspired by the expansive vistas of Montana and Wyoming and the desire to capture the vastness of the Texas Great Plains. Working primarily in pastel as well as oils, her distinctive style usually involves extreme horizontal compositions and expansive Texas landscapes. Her work is represented in the permanent collection of the San Angelo Museum of Fine Art and the John and Bobby Nau Collection of Texas Art, as well as numerous private, corporate, and government collections. Her most notable commission is a large mural for Chevron Corporation's Houston offices depicting the history of oil discovery in the Permian Basin.
