Raul Gutierrez (Texas, b. 1935), Native figure on horseback with two ponies, acrylic on board, signed lower left
sight: 30 x 36 in., frame: 36 x 42 in.
Provenance: Property from the collection of a prominent San Antonio, Texas businessman
Raul Gutierrez moved to San Antonio during his high school years, by that time he already showed artistic talent. His drawing and sketching skills earned him an art scholarship to the Warren Hunter School of Commercial and Fine Arts, which he attended at night while still going to high school. Once he felt confident in his technique, he focused his abilities on painting. Gutierrez also spent a great deal of time researching his subjects because authenticity is of major importance to him. Collectors of his work include the late President Lyndon B. Johnson; former Texas Governor John Connally; former President of Mexico, Miguel Aleman; and George Strait.
