Provenance: Property from a Fredericksburg, Texas collection Sam Murray, the child of Hispanic and Irish parents, met Dionicio Rodriguez in San Antonio, Texas in 1929, when Rodriguez was building a bridge in Brackenridge Park. Rodriguez was secretive with his techniques, but Murray perfected the trabajo rustico (or faux bois) technique and coloring processes by working with him in the 1920s and '30s on numerous commissions
