sight: 16 x 20 in., frame: 26 x 30 in.
Provenance: Property from the estate of a prominent San Antonio, Texas businessman
Tom Dorr committed to a professional art career following his graduation from Colorado State University. Deeply inspired by ranching culture, he paints what he describes as a pictorial history of the wrangler, with a blend of realism and impressionistic handling. Dorr is also an accomplished photographer, and relies on his own reference images to ensure accuracy in his paintings. Dorr has exhibited widely at galleries in Arizona and Wyoming and at major Western art events, including the Peppertree Ranch Show and the Phippen Memorial Show, where he received the “Best of Show” award in 1996; he was also honored as Featured Artist at the Cattleman Show in Paso Robles, California (2005).
