Victor D. Riesau (California, 1930-2023), "Earning Honors", artist-cast bronze sculpture on wooden base, with incised signature and edition number 9/30
height 26 in. x width 28 in. x depth 12 in.
Provenance: Property from a home in San Antonio, Texas
Victor D. Riesau was a prolific sculptor of monumental and limited-edition works who later returned full time to painting the landscapes of Southern California, the Eastern High Sierras, the Southwest, and the central California coast. But, Riesau did not begin his artistic career until after retiring from the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department after 25 years of service. His paintings and sculptures were exhibited at galleries and public institutions throughout the country, including the Autry Museum of Western Heritage, San Bernardino Museum, Carnegie Museum, Western Heritage Museum, Pasadena Museum of California Art, Frederick R. Wiseman Museum, Oceanside Museum, and Bennington Vermont Museum of Art. At the 100th Gold Medal Exhibition of the California Art Club, Riesau received the Award of Excellence in Sculpture from Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine.
