- Lot Description
Attr. Allen & Brother Victorian burled walnut pier mirror, acquired from the Kemble Bergdoll House in Philadelphia, PA, with elaborate Renaissance Revival styling, this piece was damaged in the mansion's 1989 fire, and relegated to storage areas in the basement, originally it was stationed at the end of the foyer at the base of the stairs, it is boxed out to custom fit the trim and moldings of the foyer wall, the same fire and water damage on the piece can be seen on the wall, fire, water damage and loss to finial and mirror frame, mirror glass missing, beautiful florentine marble top, over grotesque beast adorned base,with detailed carvings, including floral, leaf, and scroll motifs, robust legs with carved patterns that match the overall style of the piece, burl veneer is lifting, damaged and has some loss, but is overall sound, 124"H x 69"W x 21"D (including boxed out frame), much of the furniture in the mansion was custom made by Philadelphia and area maker's very similar to the company, support brackets for display purposes only
