- Lot Description
This lot features "Nobody Gets Out Sober", a visually striking Limited Edition Lenticular artwork by the elusive contemporary British artist James McQueen. Operating under a pseudonym, McQueen has gained significant international market notoriety for his bold, satirical reinterpretations of vintage paperback covers.
Visual Description & Key Characteristics
- Dynamic Lenticular Medium: The artwork utilizes a lenticular surface layer, creating an interactive shifting perspective where the colors and depth change dynamically depending on the viewer's angle.
- Iconic Book Design: Crafted in the signature style of a vintage Penguin Classics paperback cover, the piece prominently features a reimagined monkey emblem at the top—a nod to anonymity and street artist influences.
- Signature Textual Irony: The canvas features bold, weathered typography displaying the humorous and dry title "NOBODY GETS OUT SOBER". McQueen masterfully applies complex, faux-distressed textures to give the piece a worn, nostalgic look that contrasts its clean contemporary lines.
- Composition: The center is anchor-focused with nine graphic, concentric orange and black circles arranged in a clean grid pattern over a cream-colored book block background.
