Anthony Burgess, A Clockwork Orange. London: William Heinemann, 1962. First UK edition, first printing. Octavo (8vo), x, 196 pp. Original black cloth lettered in silver, in the original first-state illustrated dust jacket designed by Barry Trengrove, unclipped and retaining the printed “16s Net” price. Widely regarded as one of the most important works of twentieth-century British literature, A Clockwork Orange introduced Burgess’s inventive “Nadsat” vocabulary while exploring themes of free will, morality, and state control. The novel achieved enduring international recognition following Stanley Kubrick’s acclaimed 1971 film adaptation. First printings in original dust jackets remain among the most sought-after works of modern literary fiction.

Good/Very Good. Original owner’s name to lower right corner of front pastedown. Dust jacket intact, unclipped, and protected in a Mylar cover, retaining the original “16s Net” price. Small 1/2 in. split at the lower spine of the dust jacket; light handling wear and toning consistent with age.
