- Lot Description
A collection of two unusual system canes illustrating the ingenuity of concealed-compartment walking sticks. The first is a French therapeutic or radiesthesia cane with a concealed diagnostic system, retaining numbered vials, a printed French guide, plumb bob, L-shaped divining rods, and additional accessories. The spherical handle is surmounted by a domed purple glass finial engraved “La Poconéol – Paris – Bordeaux,” identifying the cane as part of the French Poconéol radiesthesia system.
The second cane conceals a gentleman’s travel and grooming set within its segmented bamboo shaft, including a hallmarked silver cylindrical container confirmed by XRF analysis, comb, straight razor, manicure implements, button hook, cut-glass scent bottles, and additional personal accessories. Together, these canes demonstrate two distinct approaches to the inventive system cane, each designed to discreetly house specialized equipment within an elegant walking stick.

Shipping: Free Gardnerville, Nevada pickup. Shipping via FedEx within the continental U.S. for $80 plus 1.5% insurance (unless waived in writing). Condition
Both canes are in good antique condition with expected wear consistent with age and use. The concealed components are substantially complete and include numerous original accessories.

The Estate of Eddi Van Auken (1938–2024), Danville, California. Mrs. Van Auken assembled one of the foremost private collections of antique canes and walking sticks over more than three decades.
