This antique salt-glazed stoneware jug was produced by W.H. Farrar and Co. in Geddes, New York, during the mid-19th century. The vessel features a traditional ovoid body, a short collared neck, and a single applied strap handle. The shoulder is impressed with a two-line maker mark reading W. H. FARRAR and CO. / GEDDES. NY. The front is adorned with a large, slip-trailed cobalt blue decoration depicting a bird perched on a stylized triple-cloud base. The bird is rendered with fine line work detailing the eye, wing, and long tail feathers. The cobalt is deep and well-saturated against the characteristic light tan salt-glazed surface. CONDITION: A restored/replaced handle.
