RAYNOR’S HCA AUCTION PRESENTS

752 LOTS OF EXTRAORDINARY AMERICAN HISTORY

Own the History. Not a Reproduction. Not a Retelling. The Real Thing.

Raynor’s Auction is proud to present a massive 752-lot auction of original American historical material, bringing together remarkable artifacts, manuscripts, battlefield letters, presidential memorabilia, Civil War archives, Black Americana, Native American history, Western Americana, shipwreck treasure, political material, photographs, autographs and rare ephemera.

This is an auction built for serious collectors — with discoveries and opportunities throughout the catalog.

MAJOR AUCTION HIGHLIGHTS

★ ULYSSES S. GRANT PRESENTATION DAGGER
An extraordinary 1873 presentation dagger inscribed “Presented to President Grant By the Miners of Warren’s Diggings 1873.” The 11-inch dagger bears the mark of noted San Francisco maker M. Price and represents a remarkable intersection of Presidential, Western and Gold Rush history.

★ EXTRAORDINARY CIVIL WAR SOLDIER ARCHIVE
One of the centerpiece manuscript collections of the sale: a massive archive containing extraordinary firsthand accounts of the war, including the Battle of Cedar Creek, Lee’s surrender, the death of Abraham Lincoln and conditions confronting freed African Americans in the defeated South.

★ THE 54TH MASSACHUSETTS & FORT WAGNER
Original July 1863 newspaper coverage of the bloody assault on Fort Wagner, where the famed 54th Massachusetts led the attack and Colonel Robert Gould Shaw was killed on the ramparts.

★ 54TH MASSACHUSETTS AT OLUSTEE
A compelling 1864 wartime letter reporting on the disastrous Union defeat in Florida and providing contemporary information concerning the 54th Massachusetts and its wounded officers.

★ MORE THAN 1,300 OGLALA SIOUX NAMED
An extraordinary 22-page Pine Ridge Agency document listing more than 1,300 Oglala Sioux by Native and English names. Among those recorded are Red Cloud, Spotted Elk, Standing Bear, Gall, American Horse and other important figures of Lakota history.

★ TREASURE FROM THE “SHIP OF GOLD”
Recovered S.S. Central America gold, including an 1842-O Quarter Eagle and an 1856-S Double Eagle graded PCGS AU55, connecting the California Gold Rush with one of America's legendary maritime disasters.

★ PRESIDENT ANDREW JOHNSON IMPEACHMENT TRIAL
An original March 30, 1868 admission ticket to Johnson's historic impeachment trial in the United States Senate, signed by the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms.

★ LINCOLN'S RUNNING MATE ON ABRAHAM LINCOLN — 1860
An exceptional presidential campaign-era letter written by Hannibal Hamlin shortly after his nomination for Vice President, discussing the possibility of Lincoln's election and describing him as an “able, wise and comprehensive man.”

752 LOTS. MORE THAN TWO CENTURIES OF AMERICAN HISTORY.

From the battlefields of the Civil War to the American West, from Abraham Lincoln and Ulysses S. Grant to African American soldiers, Native American history, presidential elections and the California Gold Rush, this auction offers collectors the opportunity to acquire tangible pieces of the events and people that shaped America.

The catalog includes material for collectors at virtually every level — from affordable historical ephemera to important manuscripts, archives and artifacts worthy of advanced collections and institutional attention.
