Auction Description

AFTER DARK/SPRING 2025 by Vallots Auctioneers

Our AFTER DARK/SPRING catalog sees important pioneers of queer academia, scholarship, and art, juxtaposed with forgotten figures of the 20th century’s most prominent gay subcultures. Leather-bound books of 19th century love poetry, contrast the leather-bound hunks of REX and The Hun self published zines. Paul Cadmus’s and Jean Cocteau’s drawings loom large alongside other lesser known figurative masters of homoeroticism. Explore the breadth of queer history, from stories of resistance in the early pages of the Advocate, extraordinarily rare original Magnus Hirschfeld journals, to rare print ephemera from San Francisco's Catacombs and other culturally important 1970s leather bars and clubs. AFTER DARK illuminates the quietest corners and loudest soirees of LGBT history.

You're invited to the live auction broadcast on May 15th, 8PM EST.

Previews are available by appointment until the day before the sale, May 21st, and can be scheduled during business hours from 10-4PM EST. Call or email info@vallots.com

TERMS & CONDITIONS

By registering or bidding at the auction, the buyer agrees to be bound by these terms and conditions.

BUYER'S PREMIUM

All lots are subject to a buyer's premium, 23% from our internal platform (auciton.vallots.com), or 28% on BidSquare's site. Credit card processing fees will be added to the buyer's premium. If you wish to pay by COD or wire, please contact us within three (3) days after the auction. Credit cards on file are charged automatically three (3) days after the auction. Invoices in excess of $5000 must be paid by wire or ACH at our discretion. Please email or call us for assistance with wire or ACH payments (info@vallots.com).

PAYMENT

Payment is due within five (5) days from the auction, after which the auctioneer may cancel the sale or bring an action against the purchaser for the bid amount. All bids are in US dollars. Bidders who have credit cards on file will have their cards on file charged automatically three (3) days after the auction.

INSPECTION

Additional photographs of any lot are available, and in person and virtual inspections are available.

CONDITION:

Every lot is sold "as is," "where is," and "without warranty," whether express or implied. Lighting and electronics have not been tested and should be professionally evaluated prior to use. Artworks have not been examined outside of the frame unless otherwise stated.

Bidders are responsible for determining the physical condition of items prior to bidding. The absence of a condition report does not indicate the absence of condition issues with the lot. Requests for condition reports, additional photographs, or a video inspection can be obtained via email at: info@vallots.com (any condition statement given is offered as an opinion and should not be treated as a statement of fact).

Our auction items are antique and vintage, often from estates, and are not in perfect condition. They often show normal signs of age, use, and wear, which might not be specified in a condition report.

AUTHENTICITY AND CONDITION

We will not sell an item if we do not reasonably believe it to be authentic (as described), and we will not describe an item if we do not believe our description is reasonably accurate. We do not, however, warrant anything express or implied. Every lot is sold "as is," "where is," "without warranty" and "with all faults" whether express or implied. Bidders are responsible for determining the accuracy of our description and condition of every lot and for making their own determinations as to attribution, period, materials, authenticity, quality, date, condition and value.

NO REFUNDS

All sales are final. We do not give or accept refunds for any reason. Please be sure that you wish to purchase an item before bidding on it. Please inquire about the condition of any item or request additional photographs before bidding. Please anticipate that shipping costs may exceed your winning bid. Please consider that the vintage and antique items we offer will always show some signs of wear and age.

AUCTIONEERS DISCRETION

The auctioneer reserves the right to accept or reject any bid, declare any item unsold, or cancel any sale at the auctioneer's sole discretion.

All images of lots belong to us, they may not be reproduced for any reason. We reserve the right to advertise the results of any item we sell.

Autopay

If you have not contacted Vallot Auctioneers to arrange payment within 3 days of the time that invoice is sent, we will charge the credit card you used to register for the auction for the amount of your invoice.

Sales Tax

Online purchases from Vallot Auctioneers may be subject to sales tax. If you are tax-exempt, you can submit your tax-exempt certificate to prevent the collection of tax.

RISK OF LOSS

Once the bid is won, the risk of loss passes to the winning bidder.

DISPUTES

All disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration in the State of Rhode Island. In no event shall our liability exceed the amount paid to us by a winning bidder.

AMENDMENTS We reserve the right to amend these terms and conditions.
