  Larry Bob Phillips was born in Canyon, Texas in 1973 and studied at the Kansas City Art Institute in the early 1990s. He then moved to New York where he worked building art exhibits for galleries and museums. After receiving his MFA from the University of New Mexico in 2005 he busied himself running a grassroots gallery in Albuquerque, taught art at the college level, and maintained a busy exhibition and mural schedule. In 2018 he took a position at Meow Wolf’s paint and pigment specialist and in 2019 became the director of the Roswell Artist-in-Residence.
  
  He has shown his work nationally and internationally and created dozens of large-scale permanent and temporary murals in Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado. Larry Bob’s work employs a wide range of graphic strategies inherited from the history of art and technology. Dot matrixes, pixelation, 1950s horror comics, '60s OpArt, engraving, and woodcut marks all swirl together to create a self-conscious graphic impressionism. These meta-loaded veils ask the viewer to slow down and consider the complex structure behind the images’ dense, meshy narratives. This viewer-powered decoding burns at the edges with psychedelia’s promise of fresh understanding.

• Shipping Info

  • The purchaser of this piece will be responsible for making an appointment to pick up the item in-person from 516 ARTS or pay for the packaging and shipment via the method of their choice.
    
    Winning items will be available after Wednesday, October 6, 2021 for in-person pick up at 516 ARTS by scheduled appointment.
    
    Buyers will be contacted the week following the auction to discuss pick-up or shipping arrangements. The buyer is responsible for all shipping and packaging costs.
    
    516 ARTS does not provide in-house shipping; we will make arrangements through our local shipper.
