Continental School, first half 20th century. "The Village Market", oil on paper laid down on artist board, pencil signed lower right indistinguishably "P. Mon?????". A charming genre scene painting depicting a European village with tall stone buildings surrounding a cobblestone street upon which walk and shop many women and children dressed in vibrantly colored robes and dresses. Framed approximately 22.5" x 19.5". Sight size approximately 19.5" x 16.5".
Examined out of the frame. Sheet laid down to artist board, some subtle rippling apparent especially upper left - not distracting. Sheet with minor flaking due to the rough nature of the paper composition. Under black light examination, no apparent in painting or repairs. No apparent tears, losses, or abrasions.
