The Kampilan Is the traditional fighting long sword of the Moros of Mindanao Island, Philippines. Particularly the Maguindano and the Maranao. The general design is believed to be from Malay, variants can be found in nearly every country of maritime Southeast Asia. The Moro Kampilan has its own unique hilt design and generally a longer blade.
This particular example has holes In the bottom of the pommel for placement of ornamental hair bundles. It also has its original cloth "munsala" attached to the handle, which was tied around the hand to secure it during combat. There are also holes at the upper end of the blade filled with copper disks, the purpose of the blade holes is debated. Some believe they are purely ornamental and other accounts say they're kill marks. Most amazingly it still has its two piece wood scabbard. The two pieces are held together with twine and is designed break away on draw to save time.
Dimensions: 40.5" long overall, 29" blade.
