The Kampilan Is the traditional fighting long sword of the Moros of Mindanao Island, Philippines. Particularly the Maguindano and the Maranao. The general design is believed to be from Malay, variants can be found in nearly every country of maritime Southeast Asia. The Moro Kampilan has its own unique hilt design and generally a longer blade.
This particular example still has its two piece wood scabbard. The two pieces were held together with cane or cloth strips and would break away on draw to save time. The end of the blade has an upturned metal prong called a "sundi" which was used to prick at foes as a distraction to create a better opening to strike a devastating blow.
Dimensions: 38.25" long overall, 27.75" blade.
