Carlos Hall (American, 1928-1997). Canyon de Chelly painting on masonite, n.d. Signature lower left. A captivating landscape painting of Canyon de Chelly by New Mexican artist Carlos Hall, finely painted with Hall's keen eye for light and color. Indeed, one of Hall's contemporaries stated, "Carlos could find color under a stone." In addition to its dazzling hues and dramatic light effects, Hall's painting presents a powerful composition featuring massive geologic structures that tower above the native desert foliage, evoking a sense of awe and wonder inspired by the sublimity of the natural world. An absolute treasure, mounted in an attractive custom frame. Size (sight view): 10.7" L x 13.7" W (27.2 cm x 34.8 cm) Size (frame): 19" L x 21.75" W (48.3 cm x 55.2 cm)
Canyon de Chelly is a one-of-a-kind geological wonder located in the land of the Navajo Nation in northeastern Arizona of the Four Corners region. In addition to being breathtakingly beautiful, it is a richly historic place that preserves the ruins of the indigenous peoples who resided there - from the Anasazi (Ancestral Puebloans) to the Navajo. It is among the longest continuously inhabited regions of North America.
About the Artist: Carlos Hall was born and raised in Taos, New Mexico. The Southwest landscape and Native American peoples of this region serves as the focus of Hall's oeuvre, as he had a strong connection to the land and its indigenous peoples. Stylistically, hall is best known for his bold compositions and his vibrant palette. According to FaraHNHeight Fine Art, "Anyone familiar with Halls artwork knows that his pieces are linked to his strong New Mexico heritage. He was raised in the eastern New Mexico border town of Clovis by his great aunt, Nelle, and great uncle, Charles Scheurich. Through this uncle, Hall is descended from both Charles Bent, the first Civil Governor of the New Mexico territory, and to Kit Carson. In fact, Carson died in the arms of Scheurichs father, and Hall possesses the last correspondence of Carson. Halls great grandfather was a cowboy during the great cattle drives of the 1870s. From his great aunt and uncle, whose family home was in Taos, Hall learned the language, chants and dances of the Taos Pueblo Indians." (source: FaraHNHeight Fine Art website)
