• Lot Description
  Peter Max (American, b. Germany 1937). "Balboa Park" silkscreen, edition 27 of 150, 1990. Numbered in red pencil lower left. Signed in multicolored pencils lower right. Peter Max blind stamp lower left. A hand drawn serigraph on archival paper by Pop Art legend Peter Max, "Balboa Park" presents this San Diego National Historic Landmark in all its splendor. The composition features Balboa Park's iconic California Tower in vibrant shades of red, yellow, blue, white, and green amidst a multicolor landscape, rising up toward the magenta sky. Expressive gestural squiggles imbue the primarily yellow foreground as well as the hot pink sky with even more lively energy. An outstanding work by Peter Max, mounted in an attractive custom frame. Size (print): 26.5" L x 33.25" W (67.3 cm x 84.5 cm) Size (frame): 35" L x 41.5" W (88.9 cm x 105.4 cm)
  
  About the artist: Born in Berlin, Peter Max moved frequently with his family, living in more than six countries until they settled in the United States. Max studied in New York City at the Art Students League, the Pratt Institute, and the School of Visual Art. Max has been revered as a visionary Pop Artist since the 1960's, beloved for his "Cosmic '60s" style which would later evolve to Neo Expressionism. Max developed a bold style of painting using striking Fauvist colors and intriguing themes. As he evolved from Pop to Neo-Expressionism, his work became more painterly and sensuous. Max's unique symbolism and vibrant color palette have continued to inspire new generations of Americans throughout the decades.

  Numbered in red pencil lower left. Signed in multicolored pencils lower right. Peter Max blind stamp lower left. Mounted under plexiglass in custom frame. Sticker residue on lower left of plexi does not impact the artwork. Artwork has not been examined outside the frame but appears to be in excellent condition with vibrant colors and vivid imagery.
