• Lot Description
  East Asia, China, ca. late 20th century CE. This striking figure represents a mythical Pixiu, a powerful creature from Chinese folklore believed to attract wealth and ward off evil. Crafted from gilt silver and adorned with vibrant blue cloisonne enamel, the piece showcases exquisite detailing and premium materials. XRF analysis confirms a silver content of approximately 92% sterling silver with 3% to 5% gold gilt purity throughout. Turquoise cabochons are securely set in pronged mounts, and tiger's eye cabochons set along the legs. Elegant filigree wings rise gracefully from its back, highlighting the artisan's refined craftsmanship. Set on a carved wooden base, this figure reflects the opulence of Chinese decorative tradition and makes a distinctive addition to any collection. Size: 6" L x 3" W (15.2 cm x 7.6 cm); 9.5" H (24.1 cm) on included custom stand.

  Condition

  Some turquoise cabochons have been reattached with adhesive, because the settings are missing some prongs. Some rubbing and wear to gilt, especially on top of head. Imperfections to enamel from firing around the base of the tail.
