Egypt, New Kingdom to Late Dynastic Period, 18th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 1550 to 332 BCE. A hand-carved steatite seal pendant of a couchant lion laying with a raised head atop an integral plinth. The beast's raised head features string-cut eyes, perky ears, and a centrally parted mane, and the underside is decorated with a dense crosshatch pattern. The seal is covered in layers of blue-green glaze that contrast nicely against the dark brown color of the stone. A drilled suspension hole is situated lengthwise through the body.
