Pre-Columbian, Panama, Chiriqui or Veraguas culture, ca. 8th to 14th century CE. A superb cast gold pendant depicting a nude shamanic figure, exquisitely detailed and rich with symbolic power. The figure features a dramatic horned or feathered headdress, large spiraled ear ornaments, delineated genitalia, and sinuous arms ending in clenched fists - perhaps indicating ritual intensity or spiritual force. A suspension loop is present on the reverse, allowing the piece to be worn as a pendant. Likely once owned by an elite individual, this pendant would have served as a potent display of status, spiritual authority, and wealth. Size: 1.6" L x 1.2" W (4.1 cm x 3 cm); gold quality: 72.7% to 83.6% (equivalent to 17K to 20K); weight: 11.5 grams.
Provenance: private Knoxville, Tennessee, USA collection, acquired before 2015; ex-Jonathan Carofino Pre-Columbian Art, New York, New York, USA, July 16, 1999
