Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Jamacoaque, ca. 500 BCE to 500 CE. A hand-built pottery ensemble with twin figures standing atop a flat base with central, rimmed receptacle that was perhaps used as a vessel or incensario. Each corner of the base was scalloped with two holes on either side of this scallop, possibly to attach this to another object. It's always interesting to try to guess as to the real intention of the artist or even what the object was used for. Size: 5.5" W x 4.5" H (14 cm x 11.4 cm)
Provenance: private southern California, USA collection, acquired before 2000
