- Lot Description
Orville Tsinnie (Native American, Navajo/Dine, 1943-2017), ca. 1980s CE. A bold sterling silver cuff watch adorned with vibrant turquoise cabochons, each set in finely sawtooth bezels and framed by silver granules, and twisted wire detailing. The integrated watch is a Citizen Eco-Drive with a sleek black dial, silver-tone hands, and day/date display. The interior band bears the maker's mark "Orville Tsinnie / New Mexico" along with a faintly stippled inscription, possibly a dedication from a previous owner, reading the surname Baldwin and the year 1988, suggesting it was given as a commemorative gift. Size: 3" Diameter x 1.6" W (7.6 cm x 4.1 cm); interior: 2.3" Diameter (5.8 cm); opening gap: 0.9" W (2.3 cm); silver quality: 94%; weight: 133.2 grams
Orville Tsinnie was an acclaimed Navajo (Dine) silversmith from Shiprock, New Mexico, celebrated for his masterful craftsmanship and innovative designs. Working primarily in heavy-gauge sterling silver and incorporating high-grade stones, Tsinnie's jewelry is renowned for its exceptional quality and distinctive style. Over his career, he won more than 300 awards, including multiple top honors at the prestigious Santa Fe Indian Market. His work is held in the collections of major institutions such as the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian.
