- Lot Description
Pre-Columbian, probably Peru, Moche culture, ca. 400 to 600 CE. A necklace composed of both ancient and modern beads. The 10 elongated and spherical shiny beads are ancient and crafted from electrum, an alloy testing at 65-67% gold and 32-33% silver. The duller, golden-hued spheres are likely modern brass. Between the metal beads are opaque green glass beads, created from copper-glass paste for their rich color. The strand has been strung in modern times on monofilament wire and finished with an oval fishhook clasp. Size: 22.5" L (57.2 cm); gold sphere: 0.5" Diameter (1.3 cm); gold quality: 65% to 67% (equivalent to 15K+ to 16K+); silver quality: 32% to 33%
Provenance: private Lake Worth, Florida, USA collection, acquired via descent in April 1997; ex-private American collection in Cyprus, acquired between 1957 to 1969, brought to USA in 1969
