A finely cast Japanese bronze lidded box modeled as a naturalistic fruit or nut, the lid featuring a seated monkey and curled leaf motif. The interior is smoothly finished, suitable for small trinkets or incense. The underside bears the kanji character æ°´ (mizu, meaning “waterâ€), a hallmark often seen on Meiji-era bronze works, possibly symbolic or indicating the foundry.
Condition
Very good, with minor surface wear and rich original patina.
