• Lot Description
  The exterior is an octagonal hinged box, dark brown to near-black in color with richly embossed Rococo-style decoration covering its entire surface — elaborate acanthus leaf scrollwork frames a central cartouche depicting two figures seated across from one another at a table, rendered in low relief, suggesting a genre scene of conversation or a game. The interior, revealed when opened, is lined with warm amber-toned fabric or paper and fitted with an ornate gilt metal frame of octagonal form, its surface engraved with intricate geometric and foliate patterns, which holds an oval portrait miniature of a young Victorian-era woman with neatly center-parted dark brown hair, pale complexion with rosy cheeks, dark eyes, and a soft white off-the-shoulder dress.

  Condition

  Crack to the wood box, some patina to the metal frame. Good antique condition.
