• Lot Description
  A fine gilt bronze humidor by E.F. Caldwell & Co., New York, the maker's signature engraved on the interior rim of the hinged lid. The rectangular casket is encased entirely in richly cast gilt bronze, the lid decorated with a recessed central panel bearing foliate scrollwork, grotesque masks, and figural elements within a broad border of fruit, flowers, and foliage. The deep sides are divided into vertical panels featuring interlaced strapwork, acanthus scrolls, crowned figural terms, and Renaissance-revival ornament of exceptional detail and crispness. The interior is fitted as a humidor with a silver-toned metal lining throughout, green velvet trim, and a metal humidifying plate screwed to the underside of the lid.
