• Lot Description
  Hand-knotted pictorial prayer rug, the navy field set beneath a cusped arch on columns and filled with flowering vine, birds and confronting peacocks above a flowering urn, the spandrels densely drawn with palmettes and scrolling vine. Main border of ivory cartouches alternating with green and red floral panels, between narrow guard stripes. Finely knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, with navy overcast selvedges and fringe at both ends.

  Condition

  Very Good, with little evidence of use. Finely knotted pile full and even across the field and borders; design sharp and colors strong, with no low or bare areas, holes or moth damage observed. Fringes clean, full and even at both ends; navy overcast selvedges intact and secure. Reverse shows a fine, regular weave with no repairs, patching or reweaving. No staining, water marks or fading noted. Lies flat and square.
