Hand-knotted pictorial carpet, the ivory field with a tree of life issuing dense polychrome blossoms and leafy branches, inhabited by confronting pheasants and parrots, with a pair of gazelles flanking a flowering urn at the base. Rust-red main border of birds among palmettes and serpentine vine, between ivory guard stripes. Finely knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, with fringe at both ends.
Condition
Very Good, with little evidence of use. Finely knotted silky pile full and even throughout; drawing crisp and colors strong, with no low or bare areas, holes or moth damage observed. A few faint, small spots in the ivory field, visible only on close inspection. Fringes full, clean and even at both ends; selvedges intact and secure. Reverse shows a fine, regular weave with no repairs, patching or reweaving. No water marks or fading noted. Lies flat and square.
