- Lot Description
Framed Italian School oil on canvas painting, Allegory of Painting, imitating a classical mosaic panel, apparently unsigned, patched repairs to canvas near right side and opposite corners, sight: approx 68"h, 34.5"w, overall: approx 74.5"h, 42"w, 24.5lbs
Condition
8.22.25-In my opinion regarding LOT: 3205 – the work is quite large and currently displayed hanging, I am unable to fully view the top edge of the frame, the canvas appears overall intact and secure within the frame, I do not believe it has been relined, a UV light examination reveals an old varnish layer, inherent texture and variation in paint thickness, minor imperfections, craquelure throughout, and scattered inpainting primarily along the perimeter, patched repairs are not apparent from my vantage point and may coincide with areas of inpainting, see images for reference, no current rips or tears to the canvas are noted, the image remains well defined with vibrant colors and the subject is quite unusual, the frame is intact with joints remaining tight, I note some rubs, scattered light abrasions, and minor wood and paint wear, overall condition issues are consistent with the age of the work and handling, I am not an expert on such works and have provided images for review, please let me know if you would like further information
