A fine American Waltham Watch Company pocket watch, serial number 1221552, showcasing the brand’s reputation for precision and timeless design. This early 20th-century example features a striking engine-turned gold dial, blending Art Deco influence with Waltham’s classic American engineering.
The guilloché-finished gold dial is adorned with Arabic numerals, an outer minute track, and a sub-seconds dial at 6 o’clock. The numerals and hands are finished in contrasting black, providing elegant legibility against the warm metallic tone. The dial retains its original finish and shows gentle, even patina consistent with careful use over a century.
The nickel-finished movement, engraved with A.W.W.Co. Waltham, Mass., and bearing serial number 1221552, reveals the firm’s hallmark quality with precision gearing, bright plates, and a jeweled lever escapement. The movement operates on a manual wind mechanism with visible regulator and fine gearwork.
The case is a sturdy nickel open-face design, numbered 1488673, with a smooth, polished back and minimal wear. The inside case back is clearly stamped with the serial and marked with inspection etchings, indicative of professional servicing over time. Crown and bow retain original form and operate smoothly.
The watch winds and sets properly at cataloging; running condition untested and sold as-is.
This early American Waltham pocket watch combines enduring U.S. craftsmanship with elegant gold-tone presentation—a fine example of early precision watchmaking suitable for collectors or period enthusiasts.
Comparable models of nickel-cased Waltham watches with guilloché dials generally realize between $475 and $700 depending on case finish and mechanical state.
This example, retaining exceptional dial character and clear engravings, is valued around $625.
Offered for sale as-is, this A.W.W.Co. pocket watch captures the refined American industrial artistry that helped define horology at the turn of the 20th century.
