An elegant 1930s Gruen VeriThin “Precision” pocket watch, featuring the company’s celebrated Ultra-VeriThin movement and classic Art Deco design. This model showcases Gruen’s commitment to innovation and style—balancing slim engineering with refined luxury aesthetics that defined their golden era.
The silvered dial bears the Gruen VeriThin and Precision markings, with raised gold Arabic numerals, a pentagonal subsidiary seconds dial, and dauphine-style gold hands. The dial presents in fine condition, showing light age toning consistent with period wear while retaining strong visual appeal.
The movement, beautifully finished and engraved “Gruen Watch Co. Ultra-VeriThin Precision – 17 Jewels – Swiss”, is serial numbered 559123. This hand-wound caliber exemplifies Gruen’s renowned thin construction and attention to high-grade mechanical refinement. Jewelled to the center wheel and fitted with a compensated balance and precision regulator, this model was marketed to professionals seeking a sleek yet dependable instrument.
Housed in a 14K gold-filled Wadsworth case, serial G047370, the case back interior is inscribed:
“Cased & Timed in U.S.A. by Gruen Watch Co. – 14K Gold Filled – Wadsworth – G047370.”
The polygonal case form (five-sided, typical of Gruen’s Precision line) gives the watch its distinctive Art Deco profile. The case exhibits light surface wear but maintains attractive shine and clear hallmarks. Hinges and crown function properly.
The watch winds and sets smoothly; the running condition is untested and it is offered as-is.
Gruen’s VeriThin Precision line represented a technical milestone—fitting a full-size 17-jewel movement into a sleek case profile without compromising reliability. The combination of Swiss engineering and American gold-filled casing makes these pieces highly collectible, especially in good condition.
Comparable examples typically realize $600–$900, depending on condition and case quality.
This fine, well-preserved specimen with clear dial and complete markings is valued around $775.
Offered for sale as-is, this Gruen VeriThin “Precision” pocket watch embodies the Art Deco sophistication and horological ingenuity of early 20th-century watchmaking.
