Vintage Hamilton Railroad pocket watch – 21-jewel Model 992 – 14K gold-filled – early 1920s American railroad timepiece.
For sale is an authentic Hamilton Railroad pocket watch, Model 992, produced circa 1920. This high-grade American timepiece features a 21-jewel movement, known for precision and durability — a hallmark of Hamilton’s railroad-grade craftsmanship.
The white enamel dial displays bold black Arabic numerals with red minute markers, a sub-seconds dial at 6 o’clock, and the signature “Hamilton” logo at center. The hands are heat-blued steel, maintaining their original color and character.
Inside, the 21-jewel movement is beautifully finished with striped damaskeening, and marked:
“Hamilton Watch Co., Lancaster, PA, 21 Jewels, Adjusted 5 Positions, 992, Made in U.S.A.”
Serial number 1722953 dates this watch to approximately 1920.
The case is a 14K gold-filled “Montauk” model by Fahys, engraved “R.R.” on the inner cover, serial 485841, and retains a lovely warm tone with light surface wear typical for its age.
Hamilton 992 railroad pocket watches are among the most respected American timepieces, prized for their accuracy and durability. Comparable examples in gold-filled cases typically sell in the $400–$700 range, depending on cosmetic and running condition.
This example, with clean dial, original case, and sharp movement engraving, is valued around $550.
