A very fine Chinese jade carving of Daoist immortal Liu Hai with a young boy holding aloft a lotus leaf, accompanied by a 3 legged money toad. The white jade is accented with russet inclusion at the sides, and on the back. The top of the lotus has a small hole for threading. From our appraiser: Liu Hai is a figure in Chinese folklore, often depicted as a Daoist immortal associated with prosperity and wealth. He is commonly portrayed with a three-legged toad, which symbolizes good fortune. While the imagery of a child holding a lotus leaf is more commonly associated with themes of purity and growth. We date this jade beauty to 18th / 19th C. - Qing dynasty. We have shown the jade under different lighting conditions so that you can see the possible visible colors depending on light and angle.
