Minnie Maddern Fiske was an important figure in American theater during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. She was famous for her fight against the Theatrical Syndicate monopoly and campaigns against animal cruelty. You can read her entry in Wikipedia. This portrait was done by her cousin Ernest Haskell (1876 - 1925) who was internationally famous as an artist, and as a leader in theatrical posters. This portrait for Becky Sharp, the play based on Vanity Fair, was made in 1899, and signed by the actress, With my love - Minnie Maddern Fiske.
