(Guilford County, NC, 1807-) circa 1860, percussion halfstock, 42-3/8 in. octagonal barrel, 3/8 in. bore, three screw 5 in. rounded barrel tang, dovetail brass blade front sight, split rear sight, very faint "H. Wright" stamp to top of barrel, lock plate stamped "R & W.D. RIDDLE & Co. / PHILADELPHIA' with some engraving, walnut half stock with four diamond and two silver band inlays to forestock, three silver inlays to right side of buttstock including a heart, five silver inlays to left side of stock, carved cheek rest and high comb to buttstock, double set triggers, brass trigger guard, forend cap, ramrod guides and thimble, and butt plate, 58-1/2 in. overall

Note: Born in Wake County in 1807, he had business interests in a barrel mill with William Lamb from 1847 to 1852, the 1860 manufacturing census lists him as a gun shop owner with four employees making guns by hand, his shop was located on Jamestown Road just north of McKay Road, he was a prolific gun maker of the time and many signed examples exist, he moved to Missouri in 1870, see The Longrifle Makers of Guilford County, by C. Michael Briggs pgs. 20, 88 and 89, and also North Carolina Schools of Longrifles 1765 - 1865, by William Ivey and Kenneth Orr pg. 104 and 105

Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction, or will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
