- Lot Description
1st item: Rare lithographed print of the front of the South Carolina Female Collegiate Institute in Barhamville, South Carolina, after a painting by Eugene Dovilliers (1818-1887), published by Sarony and Major, New York. This school for young women was founded by Dr. Elias Marks in 1828 and was commonly known as Barhamville Academy; "Collegiate" was added to its name in 1835 to reflect the rigorous four year classical curriculum. In period lemon gilt molded frame, under glass. Sight: 14 1/2 in. W x 10 in. H. Frame: 17 1/2 in. W x 13 in. H. 2nd item: Pencil drawing depicting the Pulaski Monument at Christ Church in Savannah, Georgia with figures in the foreground. Note: this drawing closely follows an undated 19th century engraving by Stephen Weekes, published by an unknown source. Framed under glass in a later giltwood frame. Sight: 12 1/4 in. H x 9 in. W. Frame: 19 in. H x 14 1/2 in. W.
Condition
1st item: Scuff, upper left sky area. Pencil marks in sky area. Toning. Not examined out of frame. Wear and oxidation to frame. 2nd item: Even toning throughout and light staining to lower margin. Wear to frame gilding.
