2nd Item: NOTES ON THE SETTLEMENT AND INDIAN WARS OF THE WESTERN PARTS OF VIRGINIA AND PENNSYLVANIA, FROM THE YEAR 1763 UNTIL THE YEAR 1783 INCLUSIVE by Joseph Doddridge, Wellsburgh, VA: Printed at the Office of the Gazette for the Author, 1824. Full contemporary leather, 16-316 pp. First Edition of Rev. Dr. Joseph Doddridge’s (1769-1826) firsthand account of life on the Western Frontier along the Allegheny Mountains, including numerous conflicts with Native Americans. 6 7/8 in. x 4 1/4 in.
3rd Item: THE TEMPLAR'S CHART, OR HIEROGLYPHIC MONITOR… by Jeremy Cross, New Haven: Published and sold by the author; A. H. Maltby & Co., Printers, 1821. First Edition. 12mo, Full brown leather with red leather label, gilt lettering and highlights to spine. 10-157 pp. including engraved half title, engraved frontispiece, and musical notation in pp. 111-156, plus 21 leaves of plates (1-20 numbered), complete. Jeremy Ladd Cross (1783-1860) followed his earlier book of Masonic emblems, THE TRUE MASONIC CHART, with this publication specifically for the Christian orders of Freemasons in the United States. Along with lessons, manuals, and songs, THE TEMPLAR'S CHART contains plates of Masonic symbols, schematics, and Biblical scenes. Scarce. 4 in. x 6 ½ in.
4th Item: THE FEDERALIST ON THE NEW CONSTITUTION by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, John Jay. Hallowell [ME]: Glazier, Masters & Co., 1831. 8vo, hardcover in period leather bindings with red leather title block and gilt highlights to spine. 542 pp including previously unpublished index. This later edition contains Madison’s corrections, as well as the earlier corrections by Hamilton and Jay. 8 ¾ in. x 5 in.
1st Item (Jefferson): foxing and toning to leaves; boards with edgewear and cupping, 2 1/2 in split front cover, writing inside cover including previous owner's name; some chipping and losses to rear pages, not affecting text. 2nd Item (Indian Wars): boards scuffed, spine label absent; some leaves loose but present; writing to front and rear pages with chips, losses, toning, and foxing. 3rd Item (Templar): Very good with tight binding; minor scuffs to covers, bottom spine with losses to leather; leaves toned and foxed; pencil notation front free endpaper. 4th Item (Federalist): Covers with scuffs and wear, toning and foxing to leaves; some ink and pencil writing to end papers.
